Migrants

My maid Madhavi is a beautiful extremely well mannered Christian lady . She and her dutiful husband make a living by working in the city .Her children live in their native village Choradakat which is somewhere beyond Canning .Recently she married off her minor daughter knowing very well that this is illegal. Her reasoning is simple. There are too many suitors for her beautiful daughter and threats from young Romeos who plan to kidnap her daughter.
Their village runs completely dry in summer as water from the canals is used extensively for irrigation. People have to depend on groundwater which is used indiscriminately. Sweet water is extremely scarce commodity in the entire area and there are no scientific methods available for rainwater harvesting. It seems strange that a place so close to the sea suffers from such severe water scarcity. It is like” water water everywhere and not a drop to drink”.
When will India see good governance?
