Nostalgia

Kaka misses big brother like anything. Kaka sat near the window and looked at D4 the house where big brother lived. D4 with its Bakul tree stands silently now .Kaka kept on murmuring “ dada has gone away nobody knows where .Dada used to water the plants in the garden”. Kaka looked so forlorn. Big Brother was more like a father to Kaka. I think he feels the loss of a parent. Kaka now keeps on thinking of the futility of existence and attachment to material things . Death of a parent usually makes one think of mortality . Kaka had lost his father when he was a baby. Big brother was like his own father.I told Kaka to stop thinking .

Kaka has lived a long and hard life. Struggled .Like most men of his generation and background he has not learned to relax . Big brother had spent his entire youth struggling hard to make ends meet .Big brother was in high school when he lost his father in a sudden attack of cholera. India was then under the British rule. Big brother suddenly became the guardian of the family –with his young mother and two little brother and sister. Kaka thus had a difficult childhood . Now that Kaka has money and means he does not know how to enjoy life. He lives a life of moderation out of habit.

The mango trees are in full bloom in Kaka’s house. Kaka gave me some green mangoes. They smell and look divine with kaka’s affection wrapped around them.
