Brief Encounter



I watched Brief Encounter on RF’s suggestion . According to him this is the best British movie of all times ? RF is a Brit. I borrowed the DVD from the library and watched it in the weekend. Noel Coward’s sensitive portrayal of what happens when two happily married strangers meet and their chance encounter turns into deep love and mutual affection for each other. It is a beautiful B/W movie . It is a tragic tale of how emotional turmoil can wreck two people’s lives .But it is also a tale of sacrifice and of mature adulthood , a tale of difficult choices to be made in life. It is a short film , enjoyable film . I told RF Sound of Music will remain my favourite movie of all times and now that I have seen this classic my faith remains unaltered.

E-Governance

Who would have expected to get a call from Kolkata Corporation in response to an ordinary citizen’s lament that too on their online portal. But the miracle did happen . I was thrilled when I received a call from the office of KMC last week in response to a suggestion I had made on their website. My suggestion for providing improved ,sanitized working conditions to the KMC sweepers / garbage collectors ,had moved the officials deeply .They had prepared a proposal on the basis of my comment and were placing it before the managing committee for action. This is definitely the success of E-governance. I would have never otherwise taken the hard way of physically going and voicing my feelings at a government department with the dream of bringing some improvement to this very important section of society.

Rasik Bhita and divinity



Suffering brings you closer to God. When you suffer you tend to pray a lot. Of course if you are a believer. After ages I went to Rasik Bhita and spent sometime with the nuns . I wanted to meet someone in particular and was feeling very unhappy when I heard that she was away at a retreat recuperating from an undiagnosed disease. Hindus believe in reincarnation .Deeds of your past life define your current life. It is believed that for saints the suffering in this life is borne by the body which is the only thing they possess of their own in this life. For ordinary men the cause of suffering can be through many things . The more you suffer the more you pray for deliverance – the closer you are to the Lord.

Does the Lord hear you. I was thinking of her and missing her presence . And I heard her voice and spoke to her .She was far away and had not called the institute for weeks .But she did call that afternoon and I was right there in front of her vacant seat speaking on the phone. I was dazed and felt blessed.

It is such a pleasure to see Rasik Bhita flourishing so well . It is almost ten years now and I am fortunate to be associated with the institution in a small way. The TATA group is now helping some of the girls from the BPL (Below Poverty Line) community with jobs under their CSR agenda. Nothing can match the dedication and discipline of the nuns. Hundreds of girls from poor families are going through a life changing programme under the guidance of these nuns. The love that the nuns shower on you can be overwhelming at times.
