Tea

Bengalis are addicted to tea . The presence of Darjeeling hills to the north of Bengal has added to the Bengali’s taste for fine tea. I have tried many varieties of tea but nothing can match the flavour of Darjeeling tea. This however does not stop me from trying any kind of tea that I come across. During my last few trips to Colombo I bought samples of Srilankan tea .This time I got an opportunity to visit a tea garden and a tea factory in Munnar,Kerala. The garden is managed by a workers cooperative .The factory outlet was selling tea of different varieties. Green tea, instant tea , leaf tea , masala tea, cardamom tea ,CTC tea etc etc. The instant tea was a wonderful discovery for me.

You can mix a tea spoonful in hot or cold water and the tea is ready to drink. The benefits of green tea are now well known. It is one of the most refreshing drinks one can have first thing in the morning and anytime during the day. One should brew it in hot water for a minute and drink it plain without adding anything to enjoy the delicate taste of green tea. It has been one of my favourite drinks for the past few years and I find it simply great . I understand the taste for green tea is acquired and does not happen naturally.Whatever might be the case it is worth trying it for those uninitiated.
