Vivek Chetana’s once popular after-school coaching for under privileged children is facing stiff competition from local coaching centres.

Vivek Chetana’s teachers are mostly highly qualified women who put in voluntary service out of their inner need to help people in need .So called slums around the area are showing signs of prosperity which is great news. Hence parents find greater confidence in services which come with a price tag. The focus has now shifted to the rural centres where women are cycling their way through difficult terrain to reach the coaching centres run by Vivek Chetana. The zeal to learn and do well in board exams is tremendous amongst these rural students. India is now a land of opportunities and for everyone and people have realized that it is in them to make the most of these opportunities.
Equally successful is the rehabilitation programme run for female jail inmates .The women lodged in jails are working wonders through their various hand embroidery and crafts work which are being sold through the sales counter and exhibitions organized by Vivek Chetana. Vivek Chetana’s secretary Krishna Dutta gets emotional whenever she speaks about the plight of these unfortunate women. When women are jailed their husbands marry instantly and live happily with their new women. When the women are released from prison they have nowhere to go. They have no place in their husband’s life and home. As one inmate had said “I have cried and cried and now the water from my eyes have filled an ocean” However when men are jailed their wives wait for them with heavy heart and tears in their eyes. Most of them cannot think of starting a new life with a new partner. Why do women have to be so emotionally bonded? Is it in their genes?
