It seems there is not much awareness and understanding about postmortem donation of body for medical purposes. I was talking to the current HOD of Ophthalmology at SSKM ,Kolkata recently. He informed me that with eyes the pledging process was not really successful in India.There were legal problems, awareness issues, process and logistics issues which acted as hindrances.
In a country of millions I would have thought getting a dead body and using it for good reasons would be the easiest thing to do on earth. But reality is something else. It seems even if you pledge your organs should your kith and kin oppose donation after your death the authorities will have no right over your body. How strange.
