Prayers

"All things bright and beautiful,

all creatures great and small,
all things wise and wonderful,
the Lord God made them all."

Don’t forget the Lord wherever you are.

He was sitting inside the temple where I had gone to pray .The priest had asked my name .It is customary to tell your family name to the priest who will be making the offering to Lord on your behalf. I had told the priest not to bother. My offering was for the Lord on Holi, the day of festival of colours.

The old man in spotless white dhoti and kurta called me as I climbed down the steps to cross the courtyard in front of the altar. He showed me a tree which had hardly any leaves at that point. The tree was full of green buds .The old man looked at the sky with his grey eyes and said “strange are the ways of the almighty. When this tree is full of leaves then the courtyard becomes completely shaded and it is difficult to see sunlight. But now it is full of buds. The tree feeds the leaves and the fruits in a cyclic manner. The source of sustenance for both is one. The tree feeds both - one at a time. Just see the wonder of creation.”

He was pleased that I had made the offering to the Lord in this way. He felt the offering must be made to the Lord straight from the heart.
