Two for joy

My neighbour Arijit can be spotted every morning with a camera held closely in his hand and eyes wandering around in search of that rare moment. Arijit’s camera captures birds in all their shapes, colours moods . His numerous photographs can be seen on

Birds can have a lovely and sometimes strange influence on our daily lives. Even at this age I feel happy whenever I see a pair of mynas (shalik) “Two for Joy” sitting on my grilled veranda early in the morning. It is a different story that such sightings hardly ever bring any additional joy to my placid life . But the thought itself keeps me motivated to face the day in an optimistic manner. People can be extremely superstitious about such things. Once I found an elderly lady standing midway on her way to the nearby hospital where her husband was awaiting surgery . Her husband was due to be operated that morning and there she was standing almost frozen in the middle of the street. On enquiring I discovered she had seen one single myna and until she saw the partner she could not leave the place. I was in a hurry so could not wait to see the outcome.
