We have a lady heading the state for the first time in the history of Bengal. But unfortunately the lady is surrounded mostly by men .All important portfolios are once again held by men. I am surprised that even after so many years the concept of equal opportunities and diversity is non-existent in political circles. It is difficult to believe that there are no qualified or suitable women to hold cabinet positions and manage important state departments. I would have expected to see a much more balanced council of ministers in terms of gender representation. If a woman, who has been chosen by the masses to lead them, does not show faith and confidence in the ability of her own tribe then I do not think we have made much progress .
Frankly I am disappointed and frustrated. This time women had voted in large numbers and formed a large percentage of the record 80% plus voters. Yet when it comes to sharing power at the top it is men who dominate .The irony is that the leader herself has more faith in men and thinks they are more capable of the two groups. In this respect the leader has not demonstrated any change and progress in thinking. Women still love to depend on men and be eulogized and pampered by the opposite sex.
basically a patriarchal society.....and we have been forced to accept it..
