Our times ,their times

I am now at a lifestage when I find myself surrounded by colleagues age wise much junior to me .When you stay with one small organisation for sometime and in a role which does not have any scope for moving up the ladder you are bound to be in a situation like this. Does that mean you are stagnating. Not necessarily. The job is fun, colleagues are nice, pay is good then what?

The odd feeling that-you are seen by younger colleagues as an old hag blocking the career path of bright young things and employers wondering what to do with people like you - at times gets the better of your good senses .Employers would love to see a change of guard but the normal retirement age could be far away for the said employee. Nobody mentions this to you but you sense that you are the odd man out in a young team. Is that only a perception created out of your own imagination. Maybe. But you realise that in a highly dynamic situation coping with change can be quite engaging. You keep learning new skills, you gather new knowledge which sometimes has no link to the roles you have played or knowledge you have gathered so far. Personally that can be quite rewarding.

I find most of the younger group extremely talented and skilled. The energy level and new thinking touches you. They belong to a different generation of facebook, twitter, online trading, lifestyle, discussion forums, ipads, and similar very very clever things. I am more impressed with the girls who are trendier, more confident and more adventurous than their counterparts of past generations. But what worries me is the restlessness and the general discontent with life. The girls of this generation seem to be doing too many things at a time .In general everyone wants to be a star and a leader .Probably that is why we have such an opinionated generation.
