Ray of hope

Sita is a seventeen year old girl from rural Bengal. Her father has remarried after her mother’s death and abandoned her. He is too busy with his new wife and could not be bothered with her. Sita has a brother who works in a factory and has a young wife .He has disowned her and has refused to shoulder her responsibilities. Sita is all alone and now thinks men are monsters . The pain inside her must be really deep for a woman to think like that, feel like that about the two most important men in her life. Women look for security in men and when that is betrayed does she ever regain her faith .I wonder !

Sita has a high school degree but the only work she could find was that of a house maid. She was finally rescued by one of the members of Vivek Chetana. She was brought over to Vivek Chetana one day.The ladies would surely find a way out so that a young life was not lost. Sita was admitted to a school that trained young women to become carers to patients .Students were taught basic nursing skills as well and then deployed in various institutions. Sita went back to her village and arrangements were made so that she could commute to the city to attend classes and live independently till she found employment.

Sita’s case is not unique. There are hundreds of young women abandoned by their near ones. Fathers abandon their children and completely erase them from their memories But there are women too who are equally guilty. Sometimes the pursuit of sensual and material pleasures , sometimes economic compulsions force men and women to seek out new pastures in life. The unfortunate children are at the receiving end. It is specially diffcult for the girl child . Even at this age when I think of my late father and run to my elder brother whenever I am in crisis I know how fortunate I have been in life . I think of Sita and her predicament and pray to Lord to give her strength to face a long life ahead.
