I have been associated with VivekChetana for many years now . It is managed by a group of women under the dynamic leadership of Ms Krishna Dutt .Krishna di was Chief Librarian of Jadavpur University in Kolkata .She started this NGO twentyfive years back with the blessings of the respected matajis of Sarada Math. As students we were inspired by her and till date a whole network of JU students and academics continue to be patrons of this organization .She has shaped many lives and inspired many to be better human beings. Many Girls who have been groomed by these lovely ladies of VivekChetana have done exceptionally well in life.
There are so many inspirational stories like a girl from the slums planning to do her PhD in psychology , two sisters training to become professional singers , a street child being sponsored to study in a residential school , women from the villages learning to read bus numbers and setting up their own businesses with loan received from Vivek Chetana etc , etc
This NGO is committed to the upliftment and empowerment of disadvantaged women and children. Inspired by the ideals of Swami Vivekananda a group of dedicated women strive to infuse hope ,awareness and a spirit of self-reliance among deprived women and children.
Objectives
-To provide vocational training to disabled and disadvantaged women
-Promote education and literacy among slum/street children
-Healthcare and medical aid
Foster development among rural women and children in the areas of literacy,health and hygiene
-Generate public awareness
-Combat social injustice against the girl child and women
Programmes
-Vidyavihar – free education and tution to slum children
-Hope- Education and health support for street children
-Step-together : Production of household lnen with appliqué work and sarees by Disabled women and oranising regular sale
